If you are looking for an acne medication solution, there are many over the counter treatments to choose from. But what is the best acne treatment? This gives you a quick OTC acne treatment comparison, so you can choose the OTC acne skin care product that works best for you.

Over the counter acne products should be used for mild, or Grade I acne. If you treat acne during this stage, you have a better chance of controlling it before it progresses to the next stage.

It is typical to find blackheads and whiteheads with mild acne. There may be some papules and pustules at this stage, but they are more infrequent. Mild acne can improve quite a bit by the application of over the counter topical treatments.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is probably the most common acne medication. It works by killing the bacteria that causes breakouts. It also unclogs pores and can reduce inflammation. You can purchase Benzoyl Peroxide over the counter in strengths from 2.5% to 10%. It is the main ingredient in many popular acne treatments, including Proactiv.

Benzoyl Peroxide is extremely drying to the skin, so you should always use it along with acne face moisturizer. It is always best to get your skin used to it gradually by using lower strengths, and applying very small amounts to begin with. You may even want to only use it every other day in beginning. Over a few weeks time, you should be able to build up to using it more frequently and can opt for a strength that is stronger, if you think you need it.

Resorcinol and Sulfer

Recorcinol and sulfer are typically found together in acne products. Resorcinol helps remove dead skin cell buildup. Sulfer has been used for a number of years to prevent acne. Resorcinol usually comes in strengths of 2% and surfer usually comes in strengths of 5% to 8%. These ingredients are found in some Clearasil products.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid corrects abnormal shedding of skin cells that block pore openings to reduce breakouts. This product works very well for those who have blackheads and whiteheads. The typical strength is .5 to 2%. Some Oxy, Noxema and Stridex products contain salicylic acid.

Alcohol and Acetone

Alcohol and acetone are typically found together in many treatments for oily skin. Alcohol helps reduce bacteria and acetone removes excess oil in your skin. You typically will find these two ingredients in astringents, toners and cleansers.

Now when you are looking for an acne medication solution, you will be better prepared with this quick OTC acne treatment comparison.

tments generally seek to remove dead skin cell and effectively treat bacteria in the skin with topical ointments and oral medications. The type of treatment you use depends on how bad your acne condition is. There are mild, moderate and severe cases so each individual’s treatment will be different. There are many different treatments on the market and many do not work well. Pro Activ is one of the better products on the market. It features a renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner and repairing lotion. The active ingredient is benzol peroxide. It does not require any type of subscription from a doctor. It is reported to help those that had trouble with finding the right medication. Acnezine is a topical skin care solution for acne. It finds the acne you have and claims to treat future outbreaks that you cannot see. It is for used for mild to moderate acne problems. It is used for adults and teens. This product eliminates spots, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and pus. Exposed Acne Skin Care is another topical product that works similar to Acenzine. A treatment that is available by prescription is Accutane. It is a super strong medication for those who suffer from severe acne. There are side effect of the drug including dry lips, birth defects, and liver problems. So use this product with care. Alternative treatments for acne focus on the proper cleaning of the skin by washing. This usually means to remove oil and bacteria. This includes eating a well balanced diet high in fiber. Often the person should avoid alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, sugar, and processed foods. Some natural products used on acne are oatmeal, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil and aloe vera. Topical acne treatments are usually creams or gels that are rubbed into the skin. It is effective because the medicine is applied directly on the skin condition. They do not cause as many side effects because they are not absorbed by the blood stream. A medication take orally is in the blood stream so this is more powerful. Tetracyclines are the most commonly prescribed oral antibiotics for acne. A few of the popular medications are minocycline and doxycycline. They can be taken with food and require less frequent dosages. Acne surgery is for severe acne that does not respond to medication or topical treatments. The blackheads and pimples are extracted with a tool called a comedo extractor. This is probably a last resort for some patients.

How You Can Have Acne Treatment 101

zits
Have you ever seen celebrities strutting the red carpet with a face blemished with acne? I would say not a chance. If there is something that celebrities are concerned about, that is their face. They spend thousands of dollars caring for their skin. After all it is their biggest investment.

Having beautiful radiant skin means less make-up. This also means the director does not have to worry angling the camera so as not to make La Lohans zit too obvious. Celebrities with zits mean more oops snapshots from paparazzi for their collection of celebrities at their worst album.

Caring for the skin does not necessarily mean spending half your salary for facial care products. Skin care and acne treatment simply need discipline. This includes a daily home routine in cleansing the skin, applying toner, treating acne and blemishes and moisturizing, strictly in that order. This ritual is a tried and tested process in caring for the skin. In fact, if you buy skin care products they always come with a brochure to guide people on how to properly maintain the habit.

Acne treatment products depend on the severity of acne in the facial skin. This could range from mild, moderate to severe. The most common ingredient found among acne treatment products are salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid is a mild acid that works to treat acne by breaking down the scale that causes clogging of the hair follicles. This is a proven safe and effective way of getting rid of mild acne. Salicylic acid encourages exfoliation of excess dead skin cells. It also increases cell turnover and helps reestablish the normal skin cell replacement cycle. Likewise, this does not have any effect on the production of sebum or the presence of p. acne bacteria which is the pimple causing bacteria. Just do not overdo and overuse this since it might sting and you are your skin. Remember that this is an exfoliating agent which might cause your skin to peel and flake.

Benzoyl peroxide on the other hand, works by introducing oxygen into the pore thereby killing the p.acne pimple causing bacteria. The p.acne bacteria cannot live in an aerobic or oxygen rich environment. Normally, you can start with a 2.5% strength gel or solution. Although there are higher percentages available, it might cause skin irritation. Hence, using facial products with benzoyl peroxide decreases the chances of getting zits and pimples.

Another myth about acne treatment is frequent face washing. No person should ever do this. Over washing of the face causes your skin to dry. When this happens the sebaceous glands will work double time in order to replace the loss of natural oil in the skin which means your skin will be oily again. If possible choose a mild cleanser for the face. This prevents the unending cycle of excessive production of sebum.

Contrary to popular belief, adulthood does not guarantee acne free skin. Skin acne is also common among adults who have fluctuating hormones which activates the production of much oil and will eventually clog skin pores thus encouraging the growth of pimples and zits. This is the simplest explanation for hormonal acne.
