Prescription Acne Treatments

Tetracycline, Doxycycline, and Minocycline

Antibiotics have been used for decades to combat acne by inhibiting the p. acnes bacteria from producing a certain protein it needs to live and multiply. By killing p. acnes, these antibiotics treat the cause of acne, ending the infection and clearing your complexion. These antibiotics can also reduce acne scarring because they speed up the healing process.

However, like most acne medications, these antibiotics do have side effects; some of them can be severe, especially those from Minocycline. Tetracycline and Doxycycline are gentler, and their potential side effects include nasea, diarrhea, blurred vision, and increased sensitivity to the UV rays, either from the sun or tanning beds.

Side effects of Minocycline include the development of very serious conditions, such as heart and respiratory difficulty and failure and Minocycline use has been linked with at least two deaths. Minocycline can also affect your ability to operate a car and can cloud your judgment. It is also very dangerous for pregnant women to use Minocycline, as it can cause skeletal defects in their unborn child. Also, children under eight years old cannot take Minocycline because it can cause permanent graying or yellowing of the teeth and can impair their growth and development. Outdated Minocycline must be disposed of, as it can cause kidney damage if taken.

In addition, the use of any antibiotic can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills, which can make the use of antibiotics to treat acne risky for many women.

Although the body does not build a resistance to Minocycline quickly, experts are increasingly recommending other antibiotics because reduced risk of serious side effects.

Accutane

Accutane, also known as isotretinoin, Amnesteem, and Clarvis, is a prescription acne medication used to treat moderate to severe acne. It comes from a family of chemicals called retinoids, which are a derivative of vitamin A. Accutane has been for over twenty years to treat and, in many cases, completely cure acne. Accutane accomplishes this cure by stopping your body from secreting oil while you are taking it, which is generally about 4-5 months. Unfortunately Accutane is a toxic substance and has a long list of potential side effects, especially concerning women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. There are several birth defects that may result from Accutane use, including mental retardation, facial abnormalities, heart problems. There is also an increased risk of infant mortality and premature birth. Because Accutane is so dangerous to unborn children, the manufacturer has set up a rigid program to regulate Accutane’s use and distribution. Before a woman can be prescribed Accutane, she must pass a pregnancy test and begin taking birth control pills. It is also required that she must use an additional form of contraception while she is taking Accutane and for a period of time afterward.

In addition to severe birth defects, other common side effects include hair loss, soreness, dry skin, nosebleeds, dry eyes, and chapped lips. There is also significant evidence that Accutane can cause users to become depressed and attempt suicide.

Accutane is very effective for permanently clearing acne, but it has several serious medical and cosmetic side effects. Before taking Accutane you should first try some other, safer acne treatments.

Retin A

Retin A is a Retinoid like Accutane, but Retin A is much less toxic and is applied topically instead of taken as a pill. Retin A works by causing the skin to shed cells more quickly, which clears pores and gives acne less chance to develop. However, like Accutane, Retin A has some bothersome side effects.

Because Retin A essential causes your skin to become thinner, it is more sensitive to light, gets dried out easily, and can become irritated. Retin A also carries a risk for birth defects and must be avoided by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.

Many people find that their skin gets very dry when they first begin using Retin A, and discontinue use. However, you must use Retin A for 1-2 months to see noticeable results.

Birth Control Pills

Some birth control pills claim to reduce the appearance of acne because of the effect it has on hormones. Although many women say that birth control has cleared their complexion, many others say it has no effect or made their acne worse.

Although birth control pills have several benefits, they may not be the most effective treatment for acne, and should be considered carefully before using, since it does alter your hormonal imbalance. Many women report than the pill does help ease cramps, but weight gain and reduced sex drive are also fairly common.

Interlesional Corticosteroid Injection

This treatment is injected directly into cystic nodules to help them heal. The fluid injected is very diluted, but is similar to anti-inflammatory injections use to help knee and back problems. In addition its anti-inflammatory effects, this injection helps to dissolve the cyst and begin healing within 3-5 days. Interlesional Corticosteroid Injection must be done by a trained physician.

Conclusion

No matter how severe your acne is, there is a treatment option that will work for you. Your skin type and acne type will determine what treatments are effective and which have little effect. For most people, using some type of over the counter acne treatment will improve their skin, although it may not clear their acne altogether. However, some people may elect to seek the help of a dermatologist, especially if their acne is more severe. Although dermatologists are trained professionals, you should learn and understand any treatments they suggest, and be familiar with any side effects. In some acne treatments, side effects are a possibility, but in others, like Accutane, you are almost guaranteed to experience several of the known side effects. Before beginning any treatment, you need to know the risks and decide if being acne free is worth the risks that come with your acne treatment.

An unbelievable amount of people suffer from acne. Almost 80% of teenagers under 18 are battling it and 50% once you hit adulthood. There are over a dozen different types of acnes, with the most common being blackheads.

If you have ever had acne in your life then I’m sure you are well aware of all of the advice that can be given out such as watching what you eat, washing your face more often, and not to drink soda. Instead of trying to figure out which food causes or contributes to your acne, why not put some focus on herbal cures for acne because it is herbal medications that sit on top of the list of well known cures. Start with B5 vitamin supplements as B5 is thought of as one of the best acne cures and that is likely because B5 will reduce the amount of oil that your skin will produce and it also will reduce the size of your pores.

Some people that have suffered from acne have used a variety of other herbs to cure their skin condition. Some of the many herbs include burdock root, lavender, chamomile, juniper, and dandelion root. These herbs are proven to work by lowering toxicity levels and acting as an anti inflammatory at the same time. Others rely on Aloe Vera gel to relieve their acne related symptoms, the flaky skin, the swelling, and the redness.

Many soaps and gels are Aloe Vera based so they work well. Naturists treat acne in many different ways and use products such as diluted tea tree oil applied right to the area that is affected. Almond oil, raw potatoes, apple cider vinegar, ginger juice, and green tea bags are only some of the acne treatments that naturists will use. Actually, ginger juice and certain vegetable juices are known to have anti-inflammatory and healing properties. What makes these treatments so popular, besides the fact that they work, is they do not cause any side effects.

Herbal cures are among the most common and popular alternative treatments for acne. The difference between natural medicine and what a dermatologist may prescribe is that the natural treatments will nourish and replenish the skin and what the dermatologist gives you is likely to dry out the skin. It is very easy to make your own natural remedies or purchase pre-made remedies and these natural remedies are also less costly than prescription drugs. With herbal cures for acne being so effective as well as less expensive, it’s easy to see why it would sit at the top of most people’s list.

The Best Acne Treatment in Order to Leave Aside the Acne Myths

All the Acne Treatment Reviews are likely to discuss about the existence of the so-called acne myths that manage to drive people quite puzzled when it comes to the best ways in order to treat this severe skin condition. These myths can sometimes contradict the existing reality when it comes to blemishes and their inner causes; for instance, such a myth states the fact that if you choose to wash your face quite often on a daily basis, you will be able to clear up your existing acne. But the reality is based on another fact, namely that dirt is not to be seen as a real cause for blemishes.

The pores are not likely to be blocked from their top down thanks to the presence of these impurities; the walls of such a pore are likely to stick together thus leading to the acne formation. Actually, frequent washing is more likely to irritate your pores and it can also make your pores become clogged. Even the wash cloth is able to add more irritation to your facial skin. Therefore, you should wash only twice a day by using your bare hands.

The best acne treatment is to come only after this routine washing in order to prepare the skin for the necessary treatment. Stress is also considered as a main factor when it comes to acne formation thanks to the fact that it can affect your hormones thus promoting the acne. Even some medications are likely to lead to acne formation which is to be regarded as a sort of side effect; therefore, stress itself is not to be considered as a real big deal when it comes to the main factors that can actually lead to acne formation.

Probably, the funniest hype ever is the one that states the fact that sex and masturbation are likely to cause this problem too; but this information is plain wrong and you should not believe this old talk anymore. One of the most known myths when it comes to acne formation states the fact that sun can actually help you in order to get rid of your skin problems. Actually, the sun can have a short-term effect when it comes to hastening and clearing the existing acne thanks to the fact that it reddens your skin.

The skin tone will be blended with the one that is due to the acne marks. But sunburn stands for huge skin damage and eventually, this type of exposure can cause a severe irritation that is likely to make your acne look and feel worse. Therefore, the sun exposure should be regarded as a sort of band-aid solution and not the best acne treatment ever. The Acne Treatment Reviews state the fact that this short term sort of treatment can often bite back when it comes to developing more acne after the sun exposure.

Therefore, if you are suffering from acne, you have to be aware of the fact that the Acne Treatment Reviews strongly recommend the limitation of the sun exposure when it comes to acne prone areas; this advice is likely to make you more prudent about your regular sun exposure. When it comes to the fact whether the acne is likely to be related to the personal diet, more research will be needed in order to demonstrate the existence of this possible connection. All modern society is likely to deal with its widespread presence and discovering the best dietary way in order to prevent the acne from its formation is the latest challenge when it comes to the nowadays trends that are based on the existence of a perfect skin.
